Freedom with Form: The Contemporary Sonnet with writer Aaron Caycedo-Kimura – July 13th, 2023 at 7 PM EDT
Join us for a special writing workshop with author, Aaron Caycedo-Kimura, to benefit Community Building Art Works programs for veterans, service members, military families, and health care workers. This workshop is free for Veterans, Service Members, and Healthcare Workers. All ticket sales benefit CBAW’s programs. This workshop will be recorded, and a link will be e-mailed to all ticket holders once the recording is available for viewing. (Note: Recording will only contain workshop lessons. All other participant video will be edited for user privacy. Only registered participants will have access to the recorded workshop.)
In this workshop, we will look at this enduring form from its origins in the thirteenth century to present day where it continues to be an essential form of expression. We will spend time examining contemporary examples, discussing what makes them “sonnets,” and end with a prompt and a practical way to help you construct one.

About the facilitator:
Aaron Caycedo-Kimura is a writer and visual artist. He is the author of two poetry books: the full-length collection Common Grace (Beacon Press, 2022) and Ubasute, winner of the 2020 Slapering Hol Press Chapbook Competition. His honors include a MacDowell Fellowship, a Robert Pinsky Global Fellowship in Poetry, a St. Botolph Club Foundation Emerging Artist Award in Literature, and nominations for the Pushcart Prize, Best of the Net, and Best New Poets anthologies. His work has appeared or is forthcoming in Beloit Poetry Journal, Plume Poetry, Poetry Daily, RHINO, Pirene’s Fountain, Salamander, Cave Wall, Shenandoah, and elsewhere. Aaron earned his MFA in creative writing from Boston University and is also the author and illustrator of Text, Don’t Call: An Illustrated Guide to the Introverted Life (TarcherPerigee, 2017).
