This summer, we are partnering with the DC Chapter of Blue Star Families, the nation’s largest grassroots military family support organization, to provide this opportunity for military teens.
A joint CBAW and BSF project, Through Our Eyes: Finding Home Again guides a group of teen students during their transition to the Washington D.C. area as they tell their stories through photographs and captions using a process called ‘photo voice.’
This project will allow us to support and learn from the stories of military teens, a population experiencing unique challenges related to transition, displacement, and loss of community during a parent’s military service–at a time when many young people are experiencing increased anxiety, loss of connection, and mental health challenges.
A culminating reception will be held in October at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, Virginia honoring the participants and their families, and inviting other military children and teenagers in the region to attend and share their own perspectives. Registration details for this reception will be forthcoming. Stay tuned to our website and social media for more information.
