Inner Child Play - An Online Visual Art Workshop with Imani Shanklin Roberts

Inner Child Play with Imani Shanklin Roberts Participants will have the opportunity to create a piece inspired by the whims of their inner child. Using materials of their choice participants will explore play and process and relinquish control and perfectionism. This workshop will be an opportunity to resurface the needs and desires of our inner child and start the transformative process of reparenting.

Suggested Supplies

  • Focus on bringing art materials used in your childhood. Things like crayons, Lego, Play-Doh, gel, etc. Those are all perfect. But anything you want to use to make marks, sculpt, build, or create will work. It is entirely up to you.

Inner Child Play - An Online Visual Art Workshop with Imani Shanklin Roberts “True mastery of life’s tasks depends upon a disciplined freedom, whose model may be found in the artistic process (Edith Kramer).” “As an Art Therapist, I desire to guide your artistic process as you come to your means of liberation, grounding, self-awareness, and inner peace. In our practice, we will work to develop personalized creative tools to work through all you may be seeking in therapy. Whether managing stress, depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, or parenting complexities; my goal as a practitioner is to be present with you in facing and navigating life’s dynamic terrain. I have a person-centered approach grounded in Humanism, Social Justice Competencies, Feminist Therapy, and Gestalt Therapy. I want to create a therapeutic relationship led by you, where I serve as a guide in the cultivation of your self-development, healing, and liberation. I look forward to supporting your fruitful journey!” -Imani Shanklin Roberts

Imani Shanklin Roberts is a Washington, DC native who returned to DC after ten years of residing in Brooklyn, NY. Roberts holds an MPS in Creative Arts Therapy and a BFA/MS in Art Education from Pratt Institute. As an artist, emerging art therapist, and enthused educator who peels apart topics on race, gender, and identity, she seeks to create and facilitate liberating and socially responsive work. The provocation is to encourage ideas of self-realized liberation. Using the traditional mediums of oil paint on canvas, she has entered the realm of the arts once dominated by a ruling minority to express the language of the oppressed and unheard. She draws inspiration from African American artists who have visually explored identity using figures and identifiable color choices in her work to reflect how she experiences the world. As an Art Therapist, my goal is to support clients using creative tools to reach means of liberation, grounding, self-awareness, and inner peace. With clients, my goal is to develop personalized creative tools to work through all you may be seeking in therapy.
